Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer graduated from Davidson College's Honors College with a Bachelor of Science degree in history in 1978. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Akron School of Law in 1982. While in law school, she was an editor of the Law Review, twice published, and a member of the Moot Court team. She graduated in the top 3% of her class.
Following law school, Judge Stormer was in the private practice of law until 1989 when she was appointed General Counsel to the Summit County Executive.
Judge Stormer was elected to the Akron Municipal Court in 1991 and re-elected in 1993 and 1999. During her tenure in Akron Municipal Court she started the first municipal drug court and the first mental health specialty court in Ohio. In November 2004, Judge Stormer was elected to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas with the term beginning January 2005.
Judge Stormer currently serves on the Ohio Judicial Conference Specialized Courts Committee. She has served on the Supreme Court of Ohio Advisory Committee on the Mentally Ill in the Courts, its Drug Court Task Force and the Ohio Community Corrections Organization Board. Locally, Judge Stormer sits on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board. She has taught lawyers and judges and is a frequent community speaker.
In addition to her professional activities, Judge Stormer also serves as a board member of the Akron Urban League and Ardmore Inc., and as a member of the Citizens Advisory Board of the Akron Junior League. In the past, she has served on the boards of Summit County Alcohol Drug and Mental Health Services, Weathervane Theatre, Community Aids Network and Women's Network among others.
The community has recognized Judge Stormer with a number of awards including the OCCO C. J. McLin award, the Urban Light award for public service, the Fred Frese Advocacy award and the Public Official of the Year award from the DAR.
